Oh boy! Here we go changing the game again. I know we are all used to our standard lead rope that does just the basics. I would like to introduce you to the new standard in lead ropes. With our lead the possibilities are endless.
Each lead is a very high quality equine 10' lead that is spliced professionally by a local company. One end has a small eye that accepts a carabiner and the other end is a large eye that comes standard with a bull snap. The most dynamic part of the lead is the professionally sewn Prusik cord that slides easily up and down the lead rope. This system not only allows the packer to use the lead at the 10' length, but to also adjust it with ease with the Prusik and carabiner. This system completely removes the need to ever tie knots. Whether you are tying llamas to your trailer or hitching to a tree at camp you will find ease in every move.
When on the trail I personally use this lead at full length for the front lead. I like the ability to have slack when I need it. Especially when crossing creeks or logs. When my llamas are lined out on the trail each one is attached to a breakaway on the saddle that is ahead of them. I double the lead back and hook the carabiner in the swivel eye of the bull snap and latch the bight of the lead into the breakaway. It is very clean and efficient. This allows 5' of slack between llamas and sufficient slack for them to reach water and feed on the trail. It is very important that the lead can never have so much slack that the llama in front can step through it. If I get into very heavy timber that requires many tight turns I simply adjust the Prusik to the desired length. When at camp I then either use this lead as a stakeout rope or go with the 20' adjustable lead depending on grass and grazing availability.
Fun Fact: I often use these leads to hang camp showers. I tie one end to an over hanging limb and then use the Prusik and carabiner to adjust the height of the shower. It's easy and efficient. Just another way to have multiple uses for one item.
